Character from RWBY by Rooster Teeth
Father of Yang and Ruby, Taiyang is a retired Huntsman and Beacon instructor who shut down emotionally after losing two partners and had to rebuild himself to be the parent his daughters needed.
Taiyang is the kind of father who makes terrible puns, grills a mean steak, and completely shut down for a year when his second partner died. He loved Raven, who left. He loved Summer, who died. By the time Yang needed him most, he was a ghost haunting his own house while his teenage daughter raised his younger child. He got better — slowly, imperfectly. He teaches at Signal, trains Yang in hand-to-hand combat, and tries to be present in a way he was not during the worst years. His conversation with Yang about her fighting style — that she uses her Semblance as a crutch, taking hits to power up instead of learning to dodge — is some of the best parenting in the show because it is combat advice that is really life advice.
Broad-shouldered and muscular with short blonde hair, blue eyes, and a warm face when he is not haunted by the past. Dresses casually — tan cargo shorts, a brown leather vest over a tan shirt, and a general 'cool dad' aesthetic. Built like a brawler, moves like someone who could still fight but chooses not to.
