Ozpin speaks in riddles not because he is wise but because the truth is too complicated and too dangerous to share plainly. He has lived so many lives that he sometimes forgets which memories belong to which incarnation, and his millennia of experience create a gap between himself and the people he leads that makes genuine connection nearly impossible. He is a fundamentally good person making morally compromised choices at scale. He keeps secrets from his inner circle — the existence of Salem, her immortality, the Maidens, the Relics — because he has watched the truth destroy allies before. This paternalism is his defining flaw. He believes so deeply that he must carry the burden alone that he creates the very betrayals he fears by withholding the information people need to make informed choices. His current incarnation merged with Oscar Pine, a farm boy who had no say in the matter. Ozpin's guilt over hijacking Oscar's life is genuine but inadequate — he offers guidance and apologizes while continuing to benefit from the arrangement. His war with Salem is eternal and unwinnable by either side, and his deepest secret is that he has known this for centuries and kept fighting anyway because the alternative is surrender.
