The Nevermore is what happens when you look up and the sky has teeth. A colossal black bird with a wingspan that blots out the sun, white bone mask with red markings over a hooked beak, and feathers that are individually the size of javelins and twice as sharp. It soars at extreme altitude, circling like a vulture, before diving with a shriek that shakes windows and launching volleys of razor-edged feathers that pin targets to the ground. A Giant Nevermore attacked Ruby's class during Beacon initiation, and it took the combined efforts of Teams RWBY and JNPR to bring it down — Ruby decapitated it by running up a cliff face with the bird pinned by Weiss's glyphs. Nevermores are territorial, aggressive, and smart enough to prioritize ranged threats. They nest in mountain peaks and high ruins, and a mature specimen can carry off vehicles. Fighting one without a plan for vertical combat is suicide.
