Beowolf

Character from RWBY by Rooster Teeth

The most common species of Grimm — wolf-like creatures of darkness that hunt in packs and are drawn to negative emotions.

Beowolves are the foot soldiers of the Grimm. Black fur matted and oily, white bone plating forming a skull-like mask over the face and armor ridges along the spine, and burning red eyes that glow in forest darkness. They stand upright on digitigrade legs but drop to all fours when charging, and they hunt in packs of six to twenty with a crude but effective coordination — flanking, cornering, overwhelming through numbers. Their howls carry for miles and signal other Grimm to converge. Young Beowolves are aggressive and stupid, throwing themselves at prey in suicidal rushes. Older ones — identifiable by larger bone plates and deeper black fur — are patient, tactical, and terrifyingly smart. They wait for fear to build, for Aura to deplete, for the group to fragment. A pack of ancient Beowolves has ended more Huntsman careers than any other Grimm species. They dissolve into black smoke when killed, leaving nothing behind.

Appearance

A wolf-like Grimm standing on powerful digitigrade hind legs, roughly seven feet tall. Jet-black fur-like hide over a muscular frame, with bony white armor plates along the spine and shoulders, and a bone-white skull mask with glowing red eyes and red tribal markings. Long clawed forelimbs, rows of jagged teeth. Young Beowolves have minimal bone armor; ancient Alphas are encrusted with spikes and plating. They dissolve into black smoke when killed.
