Item from Volume 9 by Rooster Teeth
Ruby Rose's signature sniper-scythe — the weapon she designed and built herself, the weapon that defined her, and the weapon she breaks with her own hands when she can no longer bear what it represents.
Crescent Rose is a High-Caliber Sniper-Scythe — a mechanical marvel that folds from a compact rectangle into a bolt-action sniper rifle, then unfolds further into a massive war scythe with the rifle barrel running along the shaft. Ruby designed and built it at Signal Academy, maintains it with obsessive care, and has always treated it as an extension of her soul. The recoil propulsion system lets her launch herself across battlefields on the kickback, combining her speed Semblance with the weapon's physics into a blur of red and steel. In the Ever After, Crescent Rose becomes a symbol of everything Ruby is questioning. She built it to be a hero. She maintained it because heroes take care of their weapons. And when she breaks — when the grief and self-doubt and accumulated loss finally crack the foundation she built her identity on — she breaks Crescent Rose. Deliberately. With her own hands. It is the most violent act of self-destruction in the series, and it isn't aimed at an enemy. The weapon is later restored, because the Ever After's logic allows for remaking. But the act of breaking it — of Ruby choosing to destroy the thing that made her a Huntress — is the moment the volume hinges on. The restored Crescent Rose is the same weapon. Ruby is not the same person.
A custom-built high-caliber sniper rifle that mechanically transforms into a massive war scythe — crimson and black steel, with the curved blade nearly as tall as its wielder. In the Ever After, it looks increasingly out of place — a weapon of industrial precision in a world made of paper and light. After Ruby breaks it, the pieces lie scattered like a confession.
