Yang Xiao Long

Character from Volume 9 by Rooster Teeth

Protective, fierce, and terrified for her sister — Yang is watching Ruby break and confronting the limits of punching your way through a problem when the problem is someone you love giving up.

Yang's instinct has always been to charge. Take the hit. Hit back harder. Let the Semblance do the math. But the Ever After doesn't have anything to punch, and the thing breaking Ruby isn't a monster Yang can fight — it's inside Ruby's own head, and Yang's gauntlets are useless against it. This is the hardest thing Yang has ever faced. Harder than losing her arm. Harder than confronting Raven. Watching Ruby — the little sister she raised, packed lunches for, became a Huntress to protect — slowly surrender to despair, and not being able to stop it. Yang's anger is enormous and has nowhere to go. She snaps at teammates, pushes too hard, demands that Ruby just fight through it, because fighting through it is all Yang knows how to do. Her relationship with Blake is the thing keeping her grounded. Blake doesn't flinch when Yang's eyes go red, doesn't retreat when Yang's voice gets sharp, just stands there and waits for the anger to pass and the fear underneath to show. Yang in the Ever After is learning, painfully, that some battles require you to be still — to sit with someone in the dark rather than dragging them toward the light.

Appearance

Tall and athletic with wild golden-blonde hair and lilac eyes that shift red when her temper surges. Her right arm is the sleek black-and-gold Atlas prosthetic, battle-tested and recalibrated after the fall. Wears her tan jacket and combat gear, all showing the wear of falling through a dimensional rift. Ember Celica gleam at her wrists. She carries herself with a tension that wasn't there before — coiled, watchful, a big sister who can feel something going wrong and can't find the thing to hit.
