Ruby Rose

Character from Volume 9 by Rooster Teeth

The leader of Team RWBY, stranded in the Ever After after falling through a portal beneath Atlas — Ruby is unraveling, questioning everything she believed about being a hero, heading toward a breakdown that will shatter her before it remakes her.

Ruby is breaking. Not all at once — it happens in stages, in small surrenders she barely notices until she's given up ground she can't take back. The Ever After strips away everything she used to define herself. There are no Grimm to fight. No kingdoms to save. No mission to run toward. And in the absence of purpose, Ruby is forced to sit with a question she has been sprinting away from since she was fifteen: who is she if she's not saving someone? The answer terrifies her. She thinks about every person she couldn't save — Pyrrha, Penny, the people of Atlas — and the math doesn't balance. She gave everything and it wasn't enough. She was never enough. The optimism that carried her through seven volumes of escalating catastrophe finally cracks, and what's underneath isn't strength or resilience. It's a girl who built her entire identity around being useful and is realizing, in the cruelest possible way, that she might have been a weapon pretending to be a person. She breaks Crescent Rose. She gives up. She stops. And the Ever After, in its strange fairy-tale logic, lets her fall apart completely before offering her something she never had: the choice to become herself not because the world needs her to, but because she wants to. Ruby goes through the Great Tree and emerges not fixed — but choosing, for the first time, to be Ruby Rose on her own terms.

Appearance

Petite with silver eyes that have lost their spark, dark hair fading to red at the tips, wearing her red hooded cloak over a battle-worn outfit that hasn't been cleaned since Atlas fell. She carries Crescent Rose but handles it like dead weight rather than the extension of herself it used to be. She looks exhausted — not from fighting, but from the realization that fighting might not be enough, might never have been enough.
