Dust is Remnant's lifeblood. Mined from the earth in crystalline form, it comes in multiple elemental varieties — fire, ice, lightning, wind, gravity, hard-light, and more. It powers weapons, fuels technology, and can be woven into clothing for elemental effects. Without Dust, civilization collapses. Atlas is the world's largest Dust producer, and the Schnee Dust Company is the largest mining operation. The mines in Mantle run on Faunus labor under conditions that range from harsh to exploitative. Dust is why Atlas is rich, why Mantle is poor, and why the Schnee name carries both wealth and shame.
