Salem has been patient for millennia. She has placed her agents in Atlas — Watts in the systems, Tyrian in the streets, Cinder in the shadows. She has destabilized the kingdom from within, set its defenders against each other, and now she comes in person. Her approach is heralded by a Grimm the size of a mountain — a whale-like creature that serves as her flying fortress. An army of Grimm follows in its wake. The world has never seen anything like it, and Atlas's defenses were designed for border incursions, not an apocalyptic siege. Salem is immortal. The gods cursed her with eternal life after she tried to manipulate them into resurrecting her lover Ozma. She cannot be killed. Every plan the heroes make operates under this constraint: you cannot defeat Salem through force. You can only survive her. Her motivation is extinction. Not conquest, not power — she wants to reunite the four Relics, summon the gods back to Remnant, and let them judge humanity. She believes they will destroy it. She is probably right.
