Ozpin retreated into silence after the team discovered the full scope of his lies in Volume 6. He hid Salem's immortality. He hid the futility of the war. He hid the fact that he and Oscar would eventually merge into a single being. The betrayal was profound enough that even Ruby — who believes in everyone — stopped trusting him. In Atlas, he begins to return. Not with authority or plans, but with apologies. He offers tactical advice when asked. He provides context about Salem's forces. He does not try to take control of Oscar's body. The humility is genuine — centuries of manipulation have finally taught him that secrets destroy the people you're trying to protect. But the merge is inevitable. Every time Ozpin surfaces, Oscar loses a little more of the boundary between them. Ozpin's guilt about this is the most human thing about him.
Ozpin no longer has a physical form. He exists as a voice and a consciousness within Oscar Pine — occasionally surfacing to offer guidance, his presence signaled by a green glow in Oscar's eyes and a shift in posture and speech patterns.
