The truth came out. The Relic of Knowledge told them everything — how Ozma loved Salem, how the gods cursed her with immortality, how Ozma was reincarnated across lifetimes to unite humanity, how Salem fell into the pools of Grimm and became what she is, and how Ozpin knew all of it and told no one. He sent Huntsmen to fight. He sent Qrow to spy. He sent Pyrrha to die. And he knew — always knew — that Salem could not be killed. The team's reaction was fury and betrayal. Yang raged. Qrow nearly broke. Even Ruby, who gives everyone the benefit of the doubt, could not find words to defend him. Ozpin retreated into Oscar's subconscious, and the silence that followed was louder than anything he'd ever said. Whether this is guilt, cowardice, or a calculated withdrawal to let Oscar develop independence is unclear. Ozpin has lied for so long that even his absence might be a strategy. What is certain is that the man who was supposed to lead the war against Salem has abdicated, and the children he recruited are carrying the mission without him.
Ozpin has no physical form of his own — he exists as a consciousness within Oscar Pine. When he manifested control in previous volumes, Oscar's eyes would glow and his voice would deepen. Now there is only silence.
