Emerald is present at Salem's council but increasingly uncomfortable. Cinder is gone — recovering somewhere, hunting the Relic, and Emerald doesn't know where. Without the one person she's loyal to, the machinery of Salem's faction feels cold and purposeless. She flinches at cruelty, looks away during planning sessions that discuss casualty projections, and knows on some level that she's on the wrong side. But the alternative is being alone again, and Emerald has been alone before. It was worse. Her Semblance, Hallucinations, projects false sensory information into targets' minds. She used it to destroy Beacon. She knows what she's capable of, and the guilt sits in her stomach like a stone she can't digest.
