The Land of Darkness is where Grimm come from. A vast, desolate landscape under a sky that never fully brightens, dotted with pools of black liquid from which new Grimm crawl fully formed. Salem's castle rises from the wasteland — an organic-looking structure of dark spires that seems to have grown rather than been built. Salem directs her agents from here. Cinder received her orders here. Hazel and Tyrian report here. The land itself feels alive in a hostile way — the ground shifts, the pools bubble, and the Grimm that roam the wasteland ignore Salem entirely, drawn to her like children to a mother.

Salem's castle dominates the landscape — a massive dark structure of organic-looking spires and arches, surrounded by roaming Grimm that move around it like loyal animals.
