Character from Volume 5 by Rooster Teeth
The ancient wizard reborn inside a farmboy — Ozpin trains Oscar and guides the team from within their shared body, but his secrets are starting to crack and the trust he's built is more fragile than he admits.
Ozpin has died and been reborn countless times across millennia, an ancient curse that binds his soul to a chain of hosts. Oscar is the latest. The merge will eventually make them one person — someone who is neither fully Oscar nor fully Ozpin but a new consciousness built from both. Ozpin knows this. He hasn't told Oscar how complete the merge becomes. He trains the team in Mistral, teaching them to work together, pushing Oscar's body to develop combat instincts. He's a patient teacher and a careful strategist, and the group defers to his experience because he's the only one who seems to understand what Salem is and how to fight her. But the cracks are showing. Questions about Salem that he deflects. Histories he won't share. The way he tenses when someone asks about the Relics and what they actually do. Ozpin has been fighting this war for thousands of years and he has never won — not permanently. The team doesn't know that yet. When they find out, the trust will shatter. At Haven, his tactics help the team survive but his secrets nearly get them killed. The Relic of Knowledge can answer questions about anything — including questions about Ozpin's past that he desperately wants to keep buried.
Ozpin manifests when he takes control of Oscar's body — the boy's posture straightens, his movements become precise and practiced, and his voice deepens into Ozpin's measured cadence. The physical appearance is Oscar's, but the bearing is unmistakable. He occasionally appears as a translucent mental projection when speaking to Oscar privately.
