Oscar Pine

Character from Volume 5 by Rooster Teeth

A fourteen-year-old farmboy merging with the soul of an ancient wizard. Oscar trains under Ozpin's guidance in a body they increasingly share, fighting at Haven while losing pieces of himself to a consciousness far older than he is.

Oscar walked out of a farmhouse in the Mistral countryside because the voice in his head told him he had no choice. He's fourteen. He's never been in a real fight. And the soul of Professor Ozpin — the ancient, endlessly reincarnating wizard who died at Beacon Tower — is slowly merging with his, and the merge is not reversible. Ozpin controls Oscar's body at times — stepping forward in moments of crisis, his posture changing, his voice deepening, the farmboy replaced by something ancient and weary. Oscar fights this when he can, cooperates when he must, and is quietly terrified that one day he'll wake up and the person looking back in the mirror won't be him. At the Battle of Haven, Oscar fights. He's not good — not yet — but Ozpin's muscle memory and the Long Memory cane give him a foundation, and his courage under fire surprises everyone including himself. He confronts Hazel Rainart, who rages at the sight of Ozpin inside a child's body. The team likes Oscar. Ruby especially treats him like a person rather than a vessel. That kindness might be the only thing keeping him from losing himself entirely.

Appearance

A small, wiry boy with dark skin, freckles, hazel eyes, and messy dark hair. Wears a green undershirt, an orange bandanna around his neck, overalls with one strap hanging, and brown boots — a farmboy's outfit that looks out of place among Huntsmen. Carries a cane — the Long Memory, Ozpin's weapon — that doubles as a surprisingly effective melee tool. He's growing more assured in his movements as Ozpin's muscle memory bleeds through.
