Mercury Black

Character from Volume 5 by Rooster Teeth

An assassin's son with prosthetic legs and no Semblance — Mercury fights at Haven because fighting is all he knows, and his cynicism deepens with every battle.

Mercury is the son of Marcus Black, an assassin who stole Mercury's Semblance and then trained him through abuse until Mercury killed him. His prosthetic legs are weapons — armored boots that fire shotgun rounds and amplify his kick-based fighting style. He doesn't have a Semblance anymore, which means every fight is raw skill and mechanical advantage. At Haven, Mercury fights competently and without passion. He's not here for Salem's vision — he's here because Cinder's faction is the only structure he's ever known after his father, and leaving would require deciding what he wants, which is a question Mercury has never been able to answer. He's more cynical than Emerald, less invested in the outcome, and increasingly aware that he's fighting for people who would discard him without hesitation. When Cinder falls, Mercury doesn't grieve. He calculates. That's the difference between him and Emerald.
