Patch is where the story starts and where Volume 3 ends. A small island connected to Vale by ferry, covered in forest and farmland, with Signal Academy and the Xiao Long-Rose family home. It's the place Ruby and Yang left behind when they came to Beacon, and the place Yang will be carried back to — one arm lighter, spirit broken — after the Fall. Taiyang is here, watching the tournament on his scroll. He doesn't know what's coming. By the end of Volume 3, his house will be a hospital ward, his daughters will be shattered in different ways, and the quiet island will feel very far from everything that's burning.
