The Wyvern

Character from Volume 3 by Rooster Teeth

A massive Grimm dragon drawn to Beacon by the despair and terror of the Fall — ancient, enormous, and spawning lesser Grimm from its body as it flies.

The Wyvern was drawn to Beacon from a mountain lair by the overwhelming tide of negative emotion generated by the Fall — tens of thousands of people experiencing fear, despair, and horror simultaneously, broadcast across the globe by the hijacked tournament feed. It represents the fundamental threat of the Grimm distilled into a single, apocalyptic creature. It does not think in any human sense. It is drawn to suffering, feeds on despair, and its very presence spawns lesser Grimm from the black ichor that drips from its body. When it circles Beacon Tower, lesser creatures rain from its wings like parasites. Fighting it conventionally is nearly impossible — it's too large, too armored, too old. The Wyvern is what Ruby's Silver Eyes activate against. When Pyrrha falls and Ruby screams, the light that erupts from her eyes freezes the Wyvern mid-flight, encasing it in stone atop Beacon Tower. It remains there — not dead, but petrified, a monument to the worst night in Beacon's history.

Appearance

A colossal Grimm dragon with a wingspan that blots out sections of sky. Jet-black hide over a body of terrible proportions — massive jaws lined with bone-white teeth, four limbs ending in city-block-sized talons, and the distinctive Grimm bone armor plating along its skull and spine. Glowing red eyes in a bone-white skull mask. Black ichor drips from its body and spawns lesser Grimm where it falls. It is ancient — the largest and most terrifying Grimm most of Remnant has ever seen.
