Winter arrived at Beacon with Ironwood's delegation for the Vytal Festival, and Weiss is simultaneously thrilled and terrified to see her. Winter is everything Weiss wants to become — confident, capable, free of their father's control — and she mentors Weiss with a tough-love approach that involves criticizing her technique, demanding better, and occasionally smiling in a way that means 'I'm proud of you' in Schnee-speak. She left the Schnee household to join the Atlas military, choosing service over inheritance. Jacques Schnee considers this a betrayal. Winter considers it the first real choice she ever made. She's risen to the rank of specialist under Ironwood's command, and her loyalty to the General is absolute. Her Semblance is Glyphs — the same hereditary Schnee ability Weiss possesses — but Winter has mastered summoning, conjuring spectral Beowolves and Nevermores from enemies she's previously defeated. Watching Winter summon is what Weiss aspires to. The brief time they have together at Beacon is precious and about to be cut violently short.
