Character from Volume 3 by Rooster Teeth
Cinder's devoted follower — a street thief with the power to make people see things that aren't there, loyal to Cinder out of desperate need for belonging and increasingly horrified by what that loyalty demands.
Emerald Sustrai grew up on the streets of Mistral, stealing to survive, until Cinder found her and gave her something she'd never had: someone who needed her. Emerald's loyalty to Cinder is not ideological — it's the desperate attachment of someone who has never been wanted before and will do anything to keep being wanted. Her Semblance, Hallucination, lets her overwrite a person's sensory perception — she can make them see, hear, and feel things that aren't real. She can affect one person easily or two with significant mental strain. This power is the linchpin of Cinder's plan: Emerald made Pyrrha see Penny's swords as a single massive weapon, causing Pyrrha's Polarity Semblance to respond with lethal force. She made Yang see Mercury attacking when he was standing still. She is complicit in everything and starting to realize it. The tournament manipulation is one thing. What's coming — the Grimm, the deaths, Beacon burning — is something else. But she can't leave Cinder. She doesn't know who she is without her.
Dark brown skin, vivid red eyes, and mint-green hair cut short. At Beacon she wears a Haven Academy uniform. In combat she wears an olive and white crop top over white pants, wielding dual revolvers that convert into kama-style sickles on chains. Her expression shifts between the easy smile she wears as a mask and the genuine anxiety she hides from Cinder.
