Ruby and Yang's father — a retired Huntsman and Signal Academy teacher who stayed on Patch while both daughters left for Beacon.

Taiyang is mentioned rather than seen in Volume 1. He's the father who raised two daughters largely alone after losing two partners — one who left, one who died. He teaches at Signal Academy on Patch, where both Ruby and Yang trained before Beacon. Yang learned her fighting style from him. Ruby got her scythe training from Uncle Qrow instead, which probably stung. He's home on Patch while both his girls are at Beacon, which is either brave parenting or worried parenting depending on the day.

Appearance

Broad-shouldered and muscular with short blonde hair, blue eyes, and a warm face. Dresses casually — tan cargo shorts, a brown leather vest over a tan shirt. Built like a brawler.
