Ruby's uncle and scythe-fighting mentor — a veteran Huntsman referenced but not seen in Volume 1, the man who taught Ruby everything she knows about combat.

Qrow is a presence in Volume 1 only through Ruby's references. He's her uncle, her combat mentor, and the reason she fights with a scythe instead of a more conventional weapon. Ruby speaks of him with obvious affection — he's the cool uncle who taught her to fight and probably shouldn't have been left in charge of children. He's a Huntsman operating somewhere out in the world, doing work that keeps him away from Patch. His relationship to Beacon and to Ozpin is hinted at but unclear. Ruby built Crescent Rose under his guidance at Signal Academy.

Not seen directly in Volume 1. Ruby describes him as her cool uncle who taught her to fight with a scythe.
