The Giant Nevermore attacked during Beacon's initiation exercise in the Emerald Forest, and it took the combined efforts of the students who would become Teams RWBY and JNPR to bring it down. Ruby decapitated it by running up a cliff face with the bird pinned by Weiss's glyphs — a feat of teamwork that Ozpin watched from his observation post with quiet satisfaction. Nevermores are territorial aerial predators that soar at extreme altitude before diving with shrieks that shake windows and launching volleys of razor-edged feathers that pin targets to the ground. Fighting one without a plan for vertical combat is suicide.
A massive avian Grimm resembling a nightmarish raven, wingspan reaching fifty feet or more. Jet-black plumage with a bone-white skull mask, glowing red eyes, and red markings along its face. Bone armor plates along its wings and back, razor-sharp feathers it launches as projectiles. Talons large enough to carry a person.
