The sprawling, baby-perspective-vast living room where Lou's recliner faces the TV and the playpen gate is the boundary between civilization and adventure.
The living room is the launch pad. It seems ordinary to adults — some furniture, a TV, a rug with a pattern that is actually a fascinating maze if you are crawling through it. To the babies it is enormous, full of climbable furniture, interesting under-cushion archaeology, and the constant background noise of daytime television. The playpen sits in the corner, theoretically containing Tommy and Dil. Lou's recliner faces the TV. When Lou falls asleep, which takes approximately seven minutes, the playpen gate becomes negotiable. The coffee table is Everest. The couch cushions are a mountain range. This is where every great Pickles adventure begins.
A comfortable, lightly cluttered family room with a large sofa, a coffee table with hazardous edges (from the babies' view), a television set, and Lou's recliner positioned for maximum napping angle.
