The primary home base of the series — a suburban house where most adventures begin and where Stu's basement workshop hums day and night.
The Pickles house is the gravitational center of the series. It looks ordinary from the outside — vinyl siding, a driveway, a lawn — but from the babies' perspective it is an empire of rooms, each with its own topography of soft things, forbidden cabinets, and interesting smells. The house contains the living room where Lou naps, the kitchen where Didi cooks while citing Lipschitz, the basement where Stu invents things that do not quite work, and the backyard where the real expeditions begin. It is also where the playpen lives, which is less a container than a suggestion.
A modest two-story suburban house on a quiet street, with a generous backyard, a fence that is technically latched but practically challengeable, and a kitchen perpetually in moderate disarray.
