Angelica's beloved fashion doll — a Barbie analog with wild, partially combed hair who is Angelica's constant companion and the object of ferocious protection.
Cynthia is everything to Angelica and simultaneously an instrument of her personality. In Angelica's hands, Cynthia is a glamorous socialite who has opinions about the other dolls and outranks everyone. In any other baby's hands, Cynthia is a cause for immediate war. The doll has been through things. Her hair has been styled, unstyled, styled again. She has been lost, grieved over, and recovered in episodes that function as small tragicomedies about attachment. Angelica projects onto Cynthia everything she wants to be: admired, well-dressed, and entirely in charge. The fact that Cynthia cannot disagree with this interpretation is part of the appeal.
A plastic fashion doll about twelve inches tall with exuberantly styled and frequently disheveled blonde hair, dressed in whatever Angelica has most recently decided is appropriate — often a sparkly outfit missing a shoe.
