Chaz is Chuckie's father and the only parent in the friend group who is genuinely, visibly single. He is doing his best. His best involves laminated emergency cards, a documented list of Chuckie's allergies, and a tendency to panic on a timeline that closely mirrors his son's. He and Chuckie are remarkably similar: both anxious, both loving, both braver than they present. Chaz has processed his wife's death in that particular adult way where it is always present but rarely spoken — he does not burden Chuckie with it but it shapes everything about how carefully he holds on. He wants Chuckie to be confident. He is not sure how to manufacture confidence when he does not entirely have it himself.
A thin, slightly rumpled man with red hair (the source of Chuckie's), thick glasses (also a gift to his son), and a perpetual look of mild concern even when things are fine.
