Location from Resident Evil 4 by Capcom
Ancient mines beneath the region where Las Plagas was originally sealed — the source of everything terrible that happens in the game.
The mines are where it all started. Centuries ago, the original Iluminados — before Saddler corrupted the name — sealed Las Plagas underground. The Salazar family was tasked with guarding the seals. Generation after generation kept the mines locked until Saddler convinced young Ramon to open them. The mines transition the player from the village to the castle, and their atmosphere bridges both: tight tunnels like the village's claustrophobia, but with the Gothic depth of the castle ahead. Plaga fossils in the walls show that the organisms are ancient — far older than the cult, far older than the castle. Whatever Las Plagas is, it was here long before humans built anything above it.
Narrow tunnels shored up with old timber, opening into larger caverns with rusted mining equipment. Plaga fossils are visible in the rock walls — amber-colored, organic shapes embedded in stone. The deeper sections show signs of recent excavation where Saddler's people broke through the ancient seals. Bioluminescent Plaga growths light some caverns with an eerie golden glow.
