The Island

Location from Resident Evil 4 by Capcom

A fortified military compound off the coast — Saddler's base of operations where the Plaga is weaponized, tested, and prepared for export.

The island is Act 3, and it shifts the game from Gothic horror to military action. The enemies are Militants — Ganados in body armor with firearms, stun rods, and military training. They're the most dangerous rank-and-file enemies in the game because they fight like soldiers, not farmers or cultists. This is where Saddler's operation becomes clear: the village and castle were staging grounds, but the island is the factory. Research labs contain Plaga specimens in various stages. Holding cells contain test subjects. The communications tower coordinates with external buyers. Las Plagas isn't just a regional infection — it's a product being prepared for global distribution. The island's atmosphere is desperate and climactic. Leon is running out of time (the Plaga inside him is advancing), Ashley has been recaptured, and the stakes have shifted from rescue to preventing a bioterrorism event. Mike's helicopter support and death, the Krauser knife fight, and the Saddler final boss all happen here.

Appearance

A rocky island dominated by concrete military structures — barracks, watchtowers, research labs, and communications equipment. Unlike the ancient stone of the village and castle, the island is modern and industrial: metal walkways, floodlights, barbed wire, and heavy machinery. The architecture is brutalist and functional. Helicopter pads, docks, and defensive positions indicate this was designed as a military installation.
