Village Church

Location from Resident Evil 4 by Capcom

The hilltop church where Ashley is first imprisoned — its bell controls the Ganados, and its stained glass hides a puzzle.

The church serves multiple narrative functions. Its bell is what ends the opening village siege — the Ganados abandon their attack on Leon to attend some kind of congregation, moving like parishioners, not soldiers. This is the first hint that Las Plagas operates through a religious hierarchy, not just infection. Inside, the church is a puzzle space. The stained glass windows contain a color-rotation puzzle that unlocks Ashley's holding room. It's also where Leon first encounters the Iluminados' blend of faith and parasitology — the altars have both crucifixes and Plaga specimens. The church represents what Los Iluminados really is: not a cult that found a bioweapon, but a religion that worships one.

Appearance

A stone church perched on a hill above the village, accessible via winding forest paths and across the lake. Gothic-influenced architecture with a bell tower, stained glass windows, and heavy wooden doors. Inside, it's dimly lit by candles with worn pews and religious iconography that blends Catholic imagery with Iluminados symbols. A locked room in the back holds Ashley.
