The castle is Act 2's character, and it might be the best-designed level environment in the franchise. It shifts the game's tone from rural survival horror to Gothic action-adventure. The enemies change from Ganados with farming tools to Zealots with crossbows, flails, and ceremonial weapons. The architecture becomes the enemy: spiked ceilings, collapsing floors, spinning blade corridors. Salazar's presence saturates every room. His portrait hangs in every hall. His voice taunts over intercoms. The castle reflects his personality — grandiose, theatrical, ultimately fragile. Behind the elaborate traps and noble decorations, it's a prison. Salazar is as trapped here as anyone else. The castle contains the game's most varied encounters: the Garrador dungeon, the Novistador sewers, the Verdugo underground chase, the water hall with the mechanical dragon, and Salazar's throne room boss fight. Each area has a distinct atmosphere — the dungeon is claustrophobic horror, the grand halls are tense combat, the sewers are survival.
