Novistador

Character from Resident Evil 4 by Capcom

Flying insect Ganados that infest the castle's sewers and chambers — they turn invisible, attack in swarms, and drop from ceilings.

Novistadors are the castle's panic enemy. They appear in dark corridors and underground waterways, often in groups, and their ability to turn semi-invisible means you hear them before you see them — the buzzing of wings in the dark. They represent a different kind of Plaga horror than the humanoid Ganados: this is complete metamorphosis, the human host dissolved into something alien. Fighting them is frantic and disorienting. They attack from above, cling to walls, and swarm. They drop valuable gems when killed, creating a risk-reward dynamic: do you push deeper into the infested sewers for treasure, or retreat?

Appearance

Human-sized flying insects with translucent wings, compound eyes, and elongated limbs ending in sharp points. Their bodies retain vague humanoid proportions warped into chitinous insect anatomy. They can turn nearly invisible by refracting light through their wings. In the remake, they're more grounded — sewer-dwelling, wet, with bioluminescent patches.
