Del Lago

Character from Resident Evil 4 by Capcom

A massive Plaga-infected salamander lurking in the lake — RE4's first boss and the moment you realize the infection goes deeper than the villagers.

Del Lago is fought from a small motorboat on the lake, and the encounter is pure survival horror spectacle. It drags the boat, surfaces to swallow you, and dives to create waves that threaten to capsize you. You fight it with harpoons while trying not to fall in the water — because falling in means death. It's the game's first escalation point. You've been fighting villagers with axes and pitchforks, and suddenly there's a lake monster the size of a building. It sets the tone for everything that follows: Las Plagas doesn't just infect people, it infects ecosystems.

Appearance

An enormous aquatic creature — dozens of meters long, with mottled grey-brown skin and a gaping maw lined with rows of teeth. It moves beneath the surface of the lake, visible only as a wake of churning water until it surfaces to attack. In the remake, it's more detailed: bioluminescent Plaga growths along its flanks, damaged fins, an ancient look that suggests it's been in the lake far longer than Saddler's cult.
