Keiko Yamasuki

Character from remembrance-of-earths-past by

Japanese neuroscientist, wife and lifelong research partner of Bill Hines — co-author of the quantum brain-activity work that made the Wallfacer mental seal possible, and the one who insists, when no one else will, that they have already crossed an ethical line.

Keiko is the conscience Bill Hines listens to and the only person he listens to. She co-authored the science that became the mental seal and she will not let him forget it. She is the reason the Wallfacer plan is built around saving people, not killing aliens; she is also the reason he cannot quite live with himself afterward. She is gentle, devastatingly precise, and slow to forgive.

Appearance

A small Japanese woman in her sixties with gray-streaked black hair pulled back, wearing the soft cardigans and pleated skirts of a senior university researcher. Her eyes behind small rimless glasses are very dark and very still. She wears no makeup and no jewelry except a thin gold band.

Also known as: Keiko, Dr. Yamasuki
