Location from Red Rising by Pierce Brown
The Sovereign's fortress-palace on Luna. Seat of absolute power in the Society, where Octavia au Lune ruled the solar system with an iron fist sheathed in silk.
The Citadel is not a building so much as a statement: I rule, and you do not. Every stone, every corridor, every precisely calculated sightline was designed to project the absolute authority of the Sovereign. Octavia au Lune held court here for decades, dispensing justice and cruelty from a throne that overlooked the entire lunar cityscape. The Praetorians — her personal guard of the deadliest Golds and Obsidians in the system — ensured that no one entered or left without her knowledge. The Citadel's dungeons are legendary, its torture chambers efficient, and its political salons lethal in a different way. When Darrow finally brought the Rising to Luna, the Citadel was the final objective — the head of the snake. Taking it meant killing or capturing the Sovereign and breaking the Society's chain of command. The building survived. Power merely changed hands. The Citadel endures because power always needs a throne room.
A monumental palace of dark stone, gold filigree, and towering spires rising above Luna's capital. The interior is opulent to the point of intimidation — vaulted halls lined with statues of past Sovereigns, throne rooms designed to make supplicants feel small, and private chambers fitted with every luxury the Colors can provide. Praetorian guards in midnight armor stand at every door.
