Phobos

Location from Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Mars's larger moon, converted into an orbital dock and transit hub. A critical chokepoint for anyone trying to control access to Mars.

Phobos is a doorstep, and whoever controls the doorstep controls who gets in and out of Mars. The Society converted the moon into a military-industrial complex — shipyards, weapons depots, communication relays, and a civilian transit hub that processes millions of Color-coded passengers annually. It is also a surveillance platform; nothing approaches or leaves Mars without Phobos knowing. During the Rising, Phobos became a flashpoint. Taking the orbital stations was essential to any assault on Mars proper, and the fighting in its cramped corridors was some of the most brutal of the war. The moon has changed hands multiple times, each transition marked by explosive decompression, corridor-by-corridor firefights, and the cold mathematics of orbital warfare where a single breach can kill thousands.

Appearance

A potato-shaped moon riddled with docking bays, military hangars, and transit terminals carved into its rocky surface. The interior is a maze of corridors and pressurized chambers. Viewports offer a stunning panorama of Mars below, rust-red and vast.
