Lysander au Lune

Character from Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Octavia's grandson, heir to the Lune dynasty — a golden prince raised in exile who believes with terrifying sincerity that Gold's return to power is humanity's only salvation. The new enemy.

Lysander au Lune is the most dangerous kind of antagonist: one who genuinely believes he is the hero. Raised by his grandmother Octavia and then by Cassius in exile after the Rising, he absorbed two contradictory educations — Octavia's ruthless pragmatism and Cassius's wounded honor. The result is a young man who believes the Color system was flawed in execution but correct in principle, that Gold was meant to rule not for Gold's sake but for humanity's, and that the Republic's chaos proves democracy cannot work. He is intelligent, charismatic, strategically gifted, and absolutely convinced of his own righteous purpose. He returns from exile to reclaim the Lune legacy and unite the remnants of Gold power, becoming Darrow's mirror — another young man certain that he alone can save the world. His relationship with Cassius is complex: genuine love for the man who raised him, paired with the cold calculation Octavia installed. He is the future the Society faithful rally around, and he may be worse than what came before because he believes his tyranny is benevolence.

Appearance

Young and strikingly handsome with the Lune family's platinum features — pale gold hair, sharp aristocratic face, eyes like cut crystal. Carries himself with an innate regality that survived years of exile. Lean and athletic, moving with the coiled grace of a trained warrior who has not yet been fully tested by war. His beauty is the Society's propaganda made flesh.
