Diomedes au Raa

Character from Red Rising by Pierce Brown

The Storm Knight — Rim Gold's greatest warrior, an honorable blade in a dishonorable war. His code is older than the Society, and he follows it even when it costs him everything.

Diomedes au Raa is what Gold was supposed to be before the Society corrupted it. A Rim warrior raised on discipline, honor, and the old codes, he fights with devastating skill but always within the bounds of his principles. Where Core Golds scheme and betray, Diomedes keeps his word. Where they indulge in excess, he lives austerely. This makes him both admirable and tragic — an honorable man serving a system that exploits his honor. He is Romulus's son and the Rim's greatest military asset, a warrior whose reputation precedes him across the system. His interactions with both Darrow and Lysander force him to question whether his code can survive contact with reality, whether honor means anything when everyone around you has abandoned it. He represents the best argument for Gold's existence and simultaneously proves that argument insufficient — being a good person within a bad system doesn't make the system good.

Appearance

Tall and powerfully built with the Rim's austere bearing — no decoration, no excess. Dark features with deep-set eyes that carry the gravity of someone who takes duty seriously in an unserious world. His armor is functional, scarred from use, bearing the Raa family marks. Moves with a warrior's economy that speaks of lifelong training in the old forms.
