Cameron Cole

Character from Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

A Newblood silencer with superhuman rudeness and a talent for seeing through everyone's bullshit — recruited against her will, loyal despite herself.

Cameron was conscripted into factory work in New Town, tattooed with an ID number, and had her twin brother Morrey imprisoned as leverage for her compliance. She was not interested in being recruited by Mare Barrow's revolution. She was not interested in being anyone's symbol. She was interested in getting her brother back and being left alone. Her ability is devastating — she can nullify others' powers through sight alone, shutting down their entire system: pulse slowing, eyes darkening, body temperature dropping. She is stronger than Silver silencers. In a world defined by supernatural ability, she is the off switch. She is brutally honest, disarmingly stern, and sees situations with a clarity that more politically-minded characters lack. Her relationship with Mare is initially hostile — Mare recruited her by force — but develops into genuine friendship built on mutual respect and shared trauma. After the war, she became a blood speaker representing Newbloods in the new government.

Appearance

Tall and lean with dark coiled hair in braids, dark brown eyes, and long crooked fingers from years as a technician. Identification tattoos on her neck reading 'NT-ARSM-188907' — the numbers Red workers are branded with. She carries the visible marks of the labor system Mare's revolution is fighting to destroy.
