Chella

Character from Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence

A necromancer who serves the Dead King — commanding corpses with a cold competence that makes her one of the trilogy's most persistent and unsettling threats.

Chella is the Dead King's primary agent in the living world — a necromancer who raises and commands the dead with practiced efficiency. She is a recurring antagonist throughout the trilogy, representing the Dead King's reach into the Hundred Kingdoms. She is competent, dangerous, and driven by a devotion to her master that may or may not be voluntary. Her necromancy is brutal and practical — she doesn't raise the dead for drama, she raises them for armies. Her encounters with Jorg are violent and personal, as both wielders of death magic recognize something of themselves in the other.

Appearance

Dark and severe — a woman whose beauty has been sharpened by the proximity of death into something predatory. She carries herself with the confidence of someone who has an army that doesn't sleep, doesn't eat, and doesn't stop. Her eyes have the particular quality of someone who sees the dead as clearly as the living.
