Sanguine was the Viper's experimental creation — an S-grade being designed to transcend human limitations through vampiric transformation. He succeeded beyond expectations, creating an entire race of vampires that threatened the existing power structures badly enough that the Holy Church and the Empire of Blight — bitter enemies — temporarily allied to destroy him. His death, the Bloodless Night, severed the regeneration effect that sustained all vampires bound to him. The Viper mentored him in alchemy for centuries, then declined to intervene when the coalition came for him. This isn't cruelty — it's the Viper's philosophy. Freedom requires power, and Sanguine's power wasn't enough. The Viper sheltered the surviving vampires afterward.
