The Blightfather transformed himself from an elf into the first Risen — sapient undead — and created an entire race and empire in his image. His Empire of Blight has warred with the Holy Church since the second era, making their conflict possibly the longest-running war in the multiverse. He blessed Casper as a way to monitor Earth and granted Lyra's transformation into a Blightwraith. Despite the cosmic-scale warfare, his personal relationship with the Holy Mother is amicable. When they temporarily allied to destroy Sanguine, it was the only recorded instance of their factions cooperating — a measure of how threatening the first vampire had become.
An ancient being whose form carries the weight of being the first sentient creature to choose undeath. His presence makes the living uncomfortable on an instinctual level.
