Character from The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
The Cike's berserker — a shaman who channels a war god and fights with a joy that borders on religious ecstasy, the only member of the unit who seems genuinely happy to be there.
Baji is the Cike's warm center — loud, loyal, physical, the one who claps people on the back and laughs at terrible odds. He channels a war god from the Pantheon and fights with berserker intensity, but unlike most shamans, his relationship with his god seems almost healthy. Combat is worship for Baji, and he worships with enthusiasm. He takes Rin under his wing when she joins the Cike, becoming something between a brother and a bodyguard. His loyalty is instinctive and absolute — once he decides someone is his, he'll die for them, and he means it without drama. His death in the series hits hardest because he's the character who made the Cike feel like a family rather than a suicide squad.
Large and powerfully built with a fighter's physique — scarred from years of close combat. Wide, open face with an easy grin that looks out of place on a special operations killer. His physical presence is imposing but his manner is disarming — he looks like someone you'd want at your back in a fight and across from you at a meal.
