Opelucid is where the arc's ideological and political conflict lands. Drayden governs as mayor and runs the Gym. Iris grew up visiting; it's the city she was meant to inherit. During the Opelucid assault Team Plasma deploys Kyurem and freezes the city, and the defense — Ash, Iris, Drayden, the Swords of Justice — mounts from the unfrozen edges. After liberation, the reconstruction montage is one of the arc's warmest beats.
