Iris

Character from pokemon-unova by

A hotheaded dragon trainer from the Village of Dragons, traveling with a cranky baby Axew in her hair and a chip on her shoulder about being 'a little kid'.

Iris grew up in the Village of Dragons under the elder's watch, raised by the forest and the Pokémon who lived in it. She handles dragons not because she studied them but because she climbed the trees they nested in. That confidence turns brittle when actual draconic power arrives — she's terrified of Emolga's Attract, panics around Drayden's Haxorus, and can't bring herself to enter her own Gym city without an apology speech rehearsed. Her default mode is backchat. She calls Ash 'such a little kid' at least once per episode, usually while doing something childish herself. With Cilan she's sharper — she rolls her eyes at his metaphors and the Connoisseur routine but defers when he's actually cooking. Axew rides in her hair because it's the safest, warmest place in the party; when Axew is scared he pokes out just enough to see, and Iris carries him through it. Under pressure, she drops the 'little kid' routine and becomes the person who vouches for Team Plasma's captured dragons to Drayden himself. She never beats Ash in a full battle on-screen in Unova, a loss she carries quietly into Journeys where she eventually becomes Unova Champion.

Appearance

A dark-skinned girl with an enormous cloud of deep-purple hair tied back with a yellow clip, kept so thick that her Axew hides inside it. Cream-yellow sleeveless top, pink-and-cream layered dress over beige leggings, pink ankle shoes. Eyes bright brown, always half-narrowed in judgement. Agile, wiry, swings from trees without thinking about it and lands like the ground offended her.
