Genesect is the extinct Bug-type resurrected and cybernetically upgraded by Team Plasma's science wing — it's a weapon given fossilized consciousness. The movie-canonical Genesect leads a squad of four others who were revived with it; they emerge into a present they don't understand and lash out at human civilization. The red-drive leader Genesect is particularly lost — it keeps trying to return to a hive that doesn't exist anymore. Mewtwo intervenes as the counterweight in the film's New Tork City climax.
