Cameron is the rival who defeats Ash at the Unova League — Top 8 bracket, Vertress City, on live broadcast — because he arrived at the tournament with five Pokémon instead of six, realized mid-round, and summoned his Hydreigon by phone in time for the final match against Ash's Pikachu. His Riolu evolves into Lucario during the deciding battle and rides momentum into the win. It is the most ridiculous way Ash has ever lost a league, and the show plays it entirely straight. Cameron himself is unbothered. He is a good loser and a terrible counter — the loss was the point of him. He goes out to Virgil in the very next round. Ash respects him; Iris refuses to. He is genuinely one of the warmest rivals in the series, and he doesn't realize his own win was historic.
