Volkner is the final Sinnoh Gym Leader — the Beacon Badge gatekeeper. He is also the strongest Gym Leader in the region and has, by the time Ash arrives, beaten so many challengers so easily that he is genuinely considering quitting. Flint, his oldest friend and an Elite Four member, drags him out of his slump by pointing Ash at him. The resulting battle is the closest Ash has had all region. Volkner awards the Beacon Badge with his first real smile of the arc.

Appearance

Early twenties, pale blond hair, blue eyes, dark sleeveless jacket over a yellow shirt, dark trousers. Perpetually slouched against a wall. Expression halfway between bored and sad until the battle starts.
