Jessie enters her serious Coordinator arc this region, competing under 'Jessilina' with Dustox, Seviper, Yanmega, and Wobbuffet. She actually wins ribbons. She actually makes the Grand Festival. She is briefly terrifying. James forms his strongest bond yet with Carnivine and Mime Jr., loses his beloved Cacnea voluntarily to Gardenia so it can be properly trained, and grows into the most emotionally intelligent member of the trio. Meowth gets more serious arcs — an episode with his first love Meowzie, an arc where he briefly joins Giovanni's Project Mewtwo research. They still lose every week. They still fly off into the sky. They still matter, in a way the heroes quietly respect.
