The Pitch-Black Pokémon — a Legendary Dark-type that causes nightmares against its will, heroic in the Alamos Town film and infamous in the anime as Tobias's Sinnoh League ace.

Darkrai doesn't mean to hurt anyone. Its mere presence induces nightmares. In 'Rise of Darkrai,' it sacrifices itself (temporarily) containing Dialga and Palkia's battle over Alamos Town, and Ash learns it was never the monster the townsfolk believed. A different — or possibly the same — Darkrai appears in Tobias's team at the Sinnoh League, putting opponents to sleep with Dark Void and finishing them with Dream Eater until Ash finally breaks the streak.

Appearance

A wispy, hooded shadow-figure about six feet tall, white face framed by a ragged dark hood, one visible blue eye, a red spike around the neck, and a ghostly coil where legs should be. Glides. Leaves traces of darkness in its wake like ink in water.
